Nicholas Gamso

writes and teaches about visual culture and the politics of place, with specializations in photography, artists’ cinema (especially documentary), and participatory public art interventions. 

Nick is the author of Art after Liberalism, published by Columbia Books on Architecture and the City in 2021. His other writings appear in journals such as Afterimage,  ASAP,  PAJ,  Social Text, Third Text, and art magazines Texte zur Kunst, X-TRA, and the Brooklyn Rail. Nick is co-editor of World Records, vol. 4: “In the Presence of Others,”  and a contributing editor of the Millennium Film Journal. 

Before joining the faculty of SFAI, Nick taught at the Pratt Institute and Stanford University.
