Working with photography, film, video and choreography, Orit Ben Shitrit utilizes movement and bodies  to implicate the powers that be, their mechanisms of domination, and their effect—the potential for  violence. Orit has recently exhibited her work at C24 Gallery, White Columns, ZAZ10TS in Times Square, and the Nathan Cummings Foundation, New York; MACRO Museo d’arte contemporanea, Roma;  Museum Van Loon, Amsterdam, El Museo Cultural de Santa Fe, the Herzliya Museum of Art; Biennial  of Moving Image (BIM) at Museum MUNTREF, Centro de Arte Contemporáneo, Buenos Aires; the Royal  College of Art, London; Mana Contemporary, Miami; Videobrasil in São Paulo; The 3CL,  Luxembourg; as well as in Austria, China, Germany, Finland, Russia, Slovenia, Spain and the US. 

Ben Shitrit is a recipient of awards from the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) Ostrovsky Family  Fund, and Artis Contemporary. Her work is included in private collections, as well as in the public  collections of the American University Museum at the Katzen Arts Center, Washington, D.C., and Musée  d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean (MUDAM) Luxembourg. Recent commissions include HALF TAMED  BEAST by Artis at Zoom contemporary art from the Middle East in 2010, a performance commission for  ISCP, NY in 2012, and a film commission by Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC)  in 2013-2015. She received her MFA from Hunter College in 2010. Since then, she has taught art,  photography and film at the New School/Parsons, California College of the Arts (CCA) and SFAI. Orit is  a board member of SF Cinematheque. She is based in Brooklyn and San Francisco.
