2Fik is a French-born Québécois artist of Moroccan heritage whose work playfully engages questions of identity and gender to discomfiting ends. 2Fik eases boundaries between propriety and scandal to suggest that identity is fractured and lost in translation. Defining himself as a stateless person, he has a concept of self informed by the multiple, hybrid identities he inhabits in order to survive in French, Moroccan, and Québécois cultures.
This lecture is a part of Gender in Translation, a multidisciplinary French-American operation dedicated to questioning the notion of gender in the social sciences, philosophy, and artistic fields. Related programs are presented in collaboration with Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the U.S. (San Francisco Office), and all events take place between December 2015 and the fall of 2016 in both Berkeley and San Francisco.
