Introduction by Maria Elena González

Camille Norment works across sound, installation, drawing, performance, and video to create charged aesthetic and conceptual experiences at the locus of viewers’ bodies and architectural space. As both physical and psychological participants, Norment invites viewers to explore the “tension between poetry and catastrophe, between the rapture and the rupture.” Her widely acclaimed sculptural and sonic installation Rapture in the Nordic Pavilion at the 2015 Venice Biennale featured the glass armonica, a rare 18th-century instrument that creates ethereal music from glass and water. Norment has exhibited extensively in venues such as the Venice Biennale; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Oslo.
