Grouped together by an exploration of mediums- often challenging tradition in ways that place focus on tenderness. Hensel creates soft sculptures utilizing traditional textile processes to create non-traditional objects. Hensel primarily works around topics of mental health and identity in an increasingly artificial world, most recently focusing on the power of being soft. Pettiglio focuses on imagery and motifs that explore dynamics of density, texture and value. Through non-traditional textile work and soft sculptures Pettiglio alters historical textile functionality to create familiar yet ambiguous objects that discuss memory and nostalgia. Cutrona makes use of self-portraiture as a means to address the personal as political via self-reflection and reinvention. Cutrona investigates the ability to maintain agency through abstraction, often exploring the body as landscape. These artists come together through a shared element of softness in their work to find power in vulnerability by embracing their gentle dispositions.
