OPENING

‘Opening’ states what is ‘now’ for this Summer, 2021 Low-Residency MFA cohort at SFAI.

The opening of the now is reflected in artist-stated keywords such as transition, wounding, vacancy, opportunity, morphing, learning, revealing, emergence and portal.

Portal depicts significant features of life and this distinct gallery. The clerestory windows, large circular openings to the South, the historic double red doors leading into a portal of old, new, and the now, and the mysterious wrought iron door under the stairwell. Where do these entry and exit points lead? Why? Whether we consider passing through, look to where we have been, where we may go… we are where we are now, opening to transitions of time, whether in motion or standing still.
