In SOME NEW VOICES, artists share their work and their process of discovering their identity in the work – finding their voices. They represent a diverse range of cultural backgrounds, experience, and ambitions. Many of the artists are reckoning different cultures, creating hybrid identities, and becoming new global citizens. Some are integrating past lives and careers with their new lives as artists. They are all seeking a balance between art and life, reckoning dreams, the intimate drama of family, and the pressures of survival. And in this era of fake news, their work is dominated by questions of what is real. All are taking the necessary first steps on a journey that all artists must undertake – finding a voice that is true and one’s own.
