Curated by Exhibition and Museum Studies MA student Julianna Heller, It's About Time includes the participants in Claire Daigle’s Fall 2021 graduate seminar.
The show considers the ways that artworks shape and are shaped by time, specific to what art historian Mieke Bal calls our “preposterous present.”
The artists employ a wide range of media, each constituting a specific kind of time machine. The exhibited works operate in a variety of durational registers—geological, historical, biological, botanical, emotional, or quotidian. They address many themes—including memento mori, clocks and calendars, palimpsests, cultural acceleration, and climate crisis.
